Experience: Blue # 2 – 10min This piece explores the fluid image beyond the limits predicted by the frame, proposing other visualization supports and sensorial narratives.

In the first few weeks in São Paulo, I met people, commented on the research advances and the videos that I am producing. I showed them to some artist friends and many had the same enchantment for the images that I had when I did them.

Commenting on my willingness to try out performance work, I was invited to perform at the MOLA group performance circuit, which took place along with the opening of the exhibition at the Instituto Tomio Ohtake in São Paulo, in the second semester of 2016.

When I do live pieces I do not like to call them `performances`, for me, this word refers to the classic tradition of Performance, Happenings, Living Sculptures, and the 70’s, in wich, I do not feel part and not have enough knowledge to appropriate. I feel that my work is a great process. Thus, I nominate my live works `Experiences`, because effectively, while live and with my own language I experience materials for the construction of effects, new images, and narratives.

* Obs. I still do not know if I will continue to use the word “experience” in Portuguese or if I will translate it into English, choosing a word that will keep the work in progress, impermanent.

Experiência: Azul #2 [vídeo projeção em espelho] –2016, 10min
O trabalho explora a imagem fluida além dos limites previstos pela moldura propondo outros suportes de visualização e narrativas sensoriais.

Nas primeiras semanas em São Paulo, encontrei pessoas, comentei sobre os avanços da pesquisa e os vídeos que eu estou produzindo, mostrei para alguns amigos artistas e muitos tiveram o mesmo encantamento pelas imagens que eu tive quando realizei.

Comentando sobre a minha vontade de experimentar o trabalho em formato de performance, fui convidada a me apresentar no circuito de performances do grupo MOLA, que aconteceu junto com abertura da exposição da Escola Entrópica segundo semestre de 2016 no Instituto Tomie Ohtake em São Paulo.

Quando faço trabalhos ao vivo não gosto de chama-los de performances, para mim, esta palavra se referem a tradição clássica da Performance, Happenings, Esculturas Vivas, década de 70, que não me sinto parte e nem conhecedora o suficiente para me apropriar. Sinto que o meu trabalho é um grande processo. Assim, nomeio os meus trabalhos ao vivo de Experiências, pois efetivamente, ao vivo e com a minha própria linguagem eu experimento os materiais para a construção de efeitos, novas imagens e narrativas.

*Obs. Não sei ainda se continuarei usando a palavra “experiência” em português ou se a traduzirei para o inglês, optando por uma palavra que mantenha a intensão do trabalho em processo, impermanente.

 

The Experiencia Azul# 2 Experiment happened on the 15th of December 2016. I had two weeks to organize the elements and solve how, and at wich angle and  wich distances the projector, the mirror and the basin would have to be positioned to have the desired effect.

Even though I made some sketches and basic calculations, it was only on the day of the assembly, with all the elements together that I effectively “built” the work. I tried it for several ways, and I was very insecure and not satisfied with either the size or the motivation of the job. It was four days of anguish, I assembled it on Monday and I hated the result, I fell sick on Tuesday and Wednesday, it was only on Thursday, a few hours before the opening that  I understood how to present the experience in the best possible way.

In this process, I reflected on the word referring to a piece of art in Portuguese compared to English. Artwork – referring to the word Work, something finished, realized after a hard work X Piece of Art – referring to a piece of art, something that is part of a whole, a process, a part. This unassuming reflection calmed me down and calmly, without pressure and with the feminine protection of the Mothers, Water Queens (the Orixas Oxum, Iemanjá, Nanã) and my guide queens (Queen of Clubs, Queen of Spades and Empress), I continued.

A Experiência: Azul #2 aconteceu no dia 15. Dezembro de 2016. Eu tive duas semanas para organizar os elementos e resolver como, em qual ângulo e qual as distancias ideias do projetor, do espelho e da bacia para ter o efeito desejado.

Mesmo tendo feito alguns desenhos e contas básicas, foi só no dia da montagem, com todos os elementos juntos que efetivamente “construí” o trabalho. Experimentei de varias formas possíveis, estava muito insegura e não satisfeita nem com o tamanho nem com a motivação do trabalho.

Foram quatro dias de angustia, montei na segunda feira e odiei o resultado, cai de cama doente na terça e na quarta, só na quinta feira, algumas horas antes da abertura entendi como apresentar a experiência da melhor forma possível.

Nesse processo, refleti sobre a palavra referente a uma peça de arte em português em comparação com o inglês. Obra de Arte – remetendo a palavra Obra, algo terminado, realizado depois de um árduo trabalho X Piece of Art – remetendo a um pedaço da arte, algo que faz parte de um todo, um processo, uma parte. Essa despretensiosa reflexão me acalmou e com calma, sem pressão e com a proteção feminina das Mães, Rainhas da água (Oxum, Iemanjá, Nanã) e das minhas rainhas guias (Rainha de Paus, Rainha de espadas e Imperatriz) continuei.

The Room was full, the Blue # 2 Experiment lasted about 10 minutes and was had the ambient set with the incredible sound work of my partner Herbert Baioco. For me that moment was a success, I managed to express everything I wanted and the feedback from the audience was wonderful.

the breaking of the frame, the memory, the research with the light, with the water, etc, it was only at the time of live performance, with the audience present and exposing myself that I understood how much this work is important to me. The light that runs alone beyond the image of the projected trees of the neighborhood I grew up demonstrates for me a re-signification, turning these images into memory and going beyond.

A Sala estava cheia, a Experiência: Azul #2 durou cerca de 10 minutos e foi ambientada com o incrível trabalho sonoro do meu parceiro Herbert Baioco. Para mim aquele momento foi um sucesso, consegui expressar tudo o que queria e o feedback do publico foi maravilhoso.

Antes de executar me questionei muito sobre as minhas motivações e o porque de teimar em apresentar o trabalho ao vivo. Mesmo tendo claras intensões anteriores com a quebra da moldura, da memória, da pesquisa com a luz, com a água, etc. Foi apenas no momento de execução ao vivo, com publico presente e me expondo que eu entendi o quanto esse trabalho é importante para mim. A luz que corre sozinha além da imagem das arvores projetadas do bairro que eu cresci, demonstra para mim uma ressignificação, transformando essas imagens em memória e indo além.

While blowing and smoothly “guided” the water through the round mirror projecting new images, glittering and textures related to my life, leaving the countryside of São Paulo Brazil to “shine” beyond.

Perhaps at that moment I performed a farewell ritual, today I feel more mature and with a voice to face 2017 aware of all my potential.

I hope to have the opportunity to present this work several times and in different contexts, making the viewer feel and be inspired.

Enquanto assoprava e calmante “guiava” a agua pelo espelho redondo projetando novas imagens, brilhos e texturas relacionei com a minha vida, partindo do meio do mato de São Paulo Brasil para “brilhar” além.

Talvez este momento eu tenha realizado um ritual de despedida, hoje me sinto mais madura e com voz para enfrentar 2017 ciente de todo o meu potencial.

Espero ter a oportunidade de apresentar este trabalho varias vezes e em diferentes contextos, fazendo o espectador sentir e se inspirar.
